FolkTales - Raj Smriti's Expressions

While growing up, I have rarely seen anyone Smoking. We took breath in fresh air, of smell of flowers and honey dew. We did have an ash tray at home but neither my father or uncle ever smoked. They had maybe one or two friends who did smoke but I don't remember anyone smoking in front of us children. I grew up with this conviction that smoking is injurious to health. I still believe in the theory. 2004 for the first time I left Patna and landed in Delhi in search of a new place to study or work.

The corporate culture introduced me to the concept of "Sutta Break". I could never stand in that zone. In fact I would not even speak to anyone who had the smell of TOBACCO coming from his mouth. I so hated it and abhorred it. My colleagues knew that they couldn't smoke if I was around. My boss was a chain smoker and I knew for sure I didn't want to be like her. Though I respected her and admired her other qualities but detested the chain smoker in her. Malbaro was her brand. That's where I heard the name for the first time.

Passive Smoking is as harmful as the active one and why should I make my lungs suffer because of someone else's pleasure. I loved and married a man, who again had no love for Cigarettes and neither his family members were into it. But seeing the world both east and west I kind of became a bit liberal with the same. The staunch Anti- Tobacco woman stopped objecting the smell and was kind of now Ok conversing or being friends with Smokers. I wish I hadn't.

Last year bunch of my friends the so called girl gang got to know that I have never tried smoking forced me into it. They were obviously high on drinks and with constant pestering I did try a puff to understand what it's all about. For I also believe that we need to try and explore everything in life. Other than coughing severely there was no feeling whatsoever. Neither did I feel like trying it again and I continue to hate the smell of it. But probably after several puffs, it becomes a habit and then an addiction and kind of fashion statement for people.

Tobacco is a cash crop. A crop whose farming is done to mint money. At what cost ?

Cost of Life...
Cost of Health...

So we are minting money by killing people slowly and steadily. Shouldn't we stop farming this product for the good of mankind. Why do we have to sell cigarettes and yet right on boxes that it's injurious to health?

Why can't we simply stop producing it.

Cigarette is the most deadly recreation of human being. It's the only preventable disease that can be eradicated from its roots. Instead of slogans like Say no to Smoking its time we ban the production of Tobacco. Other than money, what is the use of this crop. Some say it has drug properties and can be used to cure certain ailments. Then let's register it as a Schedule-I drug and only produce as per requirement. Doctors today unanimously oppose smoking, even though some feel it combats obesity, Parkinson’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Lets not play the game of chicken with our hearts and lungs.

FolkTales - Raj Smriti appeals to all its readers, fans, friends and family to stand against this product. Manufacturing of Tobacco should be banned. All the cigarette making companies should be locked out. We can't do this to humanity. Lets join hands for this one disease that's slowly killing human beings. An active smoker, or a passive one, we are harming not just ourselves but polluting the environment.

Let's ban Tobacco !
